Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Who's Your Hero?
Who's Your Hero?

December Player of the Month

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/01/2008

THERE'S no doubt about it. December has been the best month of the season for Grimsby after a terrible first four months of the campaign. But who deserves credit for the improvement, who is the architect of those wins, draws, goals and clean sheets that we saw during the month?

Home > 2007-2008 Season > Player of the Month > December

The six players nominated by our readers for the December Player of the Month award, votes from which will count towards the eventual winner at the end of the season, are as follows:

Nick Hegarty - Unbelievably Nick is the longest serving player at Blundell Park, but he has been overlooked by a string of managers. Only now are we finding out the better attributes of the left-footer. His crossing has always been his strength but recently he has shown a defensive side to his game as well, and of course the first ever goal of his career against Accrington this month.

Gary Jones - struggled with fitness and to get in the team all season, but is probably one of the first names on the team sheets provided he is anywhere near fit enough. Bagged some priceless goals this month.

Sam Hird - Has slotted into Town's defence very well, a shame we didn't have him from the start of the season when there was no right back at the club. Hird seemed a little reluctant to go forward in his early games, but the attacking side of his game seems to have improved too recently.

Danny North - Northy is in and out the side at the moment, gives his all every game and we still have to see the best of him, as he is improving all the time.

Gary Montgomery - Had two fantastic games at the end of December, keeping a clean sheet in the matches against Carlisle and Barnet. Also played in the defeat at Rotherham.

Ciaran Toner - Hegarty's place in the team has allowed Toner to play in a more central position, which is a more natural position for the right footer.

Pleas vote using Question of the Week.
