Buckley Praises Players

Alan Buckley was pleased with the efforts of his side against Macclesfield, where last night Grimsby managed another away with goals from Danny North and Jamie Clarke, Town took an early lead, then allowed Macclesfield to come back in to the game and equalise before a stunning Jamie Clarke volley won the match for Grimsby.

"I thought our passing and movement was excellent in the first half," said the Town boss. "We were presented with the first goal really but Northy took it exceptionally well. I don't think we made enough of our good possession in the first half. In the second half the game should have been over after 10 minutes."

Macclesfield had a lot of possession throughout the game, with Town mainly being a threat on the break. But when the Silkmen scored with just over ten minutes remaining it looked like Grimsby would have to settle for a draw.

"I felt their goal was coming. Eventually it did come but we responded in a manner that we have been doing of late. We're delighted with the result, without playing anything like to the quality that we did on Saturday.

Buckley felt that Clarke's winning volley was a worthy winner of the game.

"It was a fantastic strike from Clarkey. He can do that. He is also devastating at free-kicks - when we are going to see it I don't know. It was a very clinical strike, really good control down off his chest for a volley, and it was very pleasing to see that go in.

Likewise Danny North's goal was an accomplished piece of finishing after a defensive mistake by Macclesfield.

"Northy got put clean through and he never looked like he was going to miss. He took it early rather than take it around the keeper. He took it like a player bang on top of his game, like he is. We were delighted to score that early."
