Rotherham Docked Ten Points!

GRIMSBY'S faltering chances of reaching the play-offs have been given a boost with the announcement today that Rotherham have gone into administration. The Millers will be docked 10 points under Football League rules, which means Town will rise above them into 10th place.

Rotherham were four points above Chesterfield this morning but if they are deducted ten points it will mean that Grimsby are just FIVE points away from the play-offs instead of nine as it now stands. Should Grimsby win at second bottom club Mansfield on Saturday it could mean that they are just one result away from a top seven place.

Rotherham were relegated last season after starting the 2006-2007 campaign with minus 10 points due to going into administration in the summer. They now have been cursed with a second bout of administration which will almost certainly cost the South Yorkshire outfit a promotion place - tough luck to them.

Rochdale and Morecambe are also beneficiaries of the 10 point deduction, which has yet to be officially confirmed by the football league.

Ten years ago Grimsby won the Auto Windscreen shield at Wembley and then went on to win the play-offs when Alan Buckley was manager. It's still a long shot but there's a significantly greater chance of it happening again than there was this morning.
