Buckley Blasts Players

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/04/2008

ALAN Buckley was not happy with his play's insipid display against in-form Rochdale at Spotland. Although the sending off of Nathan Jarman was a key moment on 37, the Mariners' boss was not satisfied with his players either before or after the Town debutante received his marching orders.

"I thought we started slowly, sloppily," said Buckley. "With a bit of luck and good defending we kept a clean sheet through the first 20 minutes. We started to settle, did alright and began to look like we might come out of the other side and get playing. Then Jarman made a rash challenge and got booked."

The 22-year-old then received a second yellow card a moment later for a reckless challenge in his first start for Town.

"Within a couple of minutes he mis-controlled the ball, got frustrated - and you can't make a challenge like he did after just getting booked," said Buckley.

"We had gone down to 10 men but had weathered the storm. You sit down at half-time and talk about things, but then through sloppy play we conceded the first goal. There was weak defending down our right. They put a cross in at the far post and they had a free header. From there on it was hard work for us."

Buckley added: "It is not good enough, but you can't actually climb inside players' brains and make sure they are right, you have to trust them to deal with it."
