Toner and Fenton Latest

MIDFIELDER Ciaran Toner has left Blundell Park after agreeing with the club to terminate his contract, which still had a year to run. The Ulsterman had been given a free transfer by the Mariners at the end of last season, but could have chosen to stay at Grimsby if he could not find another club.

Toner is expected to join Grimsby's League Two rivals Rochdale, who ironically are Town's first opponents of the new season..

Toner's former team mate Nick Fenton is in a similar position, but according to the Mariners there have been no enquiries about the central defender who, like Toner, is also available on a free transfer with a year left to run on his contract.

As things stand Fenton is due to report for pre-season training when it starts next week, although if he stays at Blundell Park it's likely he'll have to settle for a lot of reserve team football next season now that Town have signed centre backs Richard Hope and Matt Heywood.
