Fenton Joins Millers

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/08/2008

DEFENDER Nick Fenton has joined League Two rivals Rotherham. The 28-year-old was surprisingly placed on the transfer list at the start of the close season, but has taken until now to find a new club. Fenton had until now been training with Grimsby where he had a year left on his contract.

Ciaran Toner who was transfer listed by manager Alan Buckley at the same time as Fenton moved some time ago to Rochdale, and is expected to be involved in Saturday's opening game against Town with his new club.

  • Fenton's new club Rotherham United have been given a 17-point deduction for the new season by the Football League as they are still under administration. Last year they received a ten point deduction. They are not doomed to relegation however as Bournemouth also have a 17-point deduction and Luton have 30!

  • Several clubs have received a bye in this years JPT trophy but unfortunately Town aren't one of them. Rotherham, Bury, Carlisle, Chester, Darlington, Huddersfield, Lincoln and Rochdale all avoid first round game in the Northern section. Scunthorpe or Leeds could however await the Mariners in Round One. Town of course reached the final of this competition last season, where they lost 2-0 to MK Dons at Wembley.
