Town Win On Penalties

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/09/2008

GRIMSBY'S amazing record of winning in penalties in cup competitions continued from last year. Town twice clawed their way back from one goal deficits to Chesterfield in the JPT clash, before winning the spot kick 4-1 - another 100% record.

Former Mariner Jack Lester had fired Chesterfield ahead before Nathan Jarman equalised after a fumble from keeper Tommy Lee.

After the break Lloyd Kerry restored Chesterfield's advantage until Danny North headed another equaliser. Town then held on to take the game to penalties.

Jamie Ward and Phil Picken both missed from the spot for the home side, while Grimsby scored their four spot-kicks.

A full match report will appear later.
