Beat the Bookies: Week 17

LAST week's two Fixed Odds bets were somewhat off the mark. However Bradford's win at Rotherham ensured a Spread Betting win which made up the deficit.

Grimsby supporters can sit back and enjoy the FA Cup this weekend as the Mariners are not playing. The FA Cup always has shocks at long odds and the Fishy has drawn up a shortlist of possible upsets - this is no time to be messing about with odds on bets!

Leicester v Dagenham Leicester's main task this season is to win promotion and the FA Cup is likely to play second fiddle at the Walkers Stadium this season. They face this season's surprise package in League Two: Dagenham, a well organised side who have put together some impressive results this season. It's not known how strong a side Leicester will put out, however the Daggers no doubt will be up for the game and be desperate to get into the Round 3 draw along with the big boys. Odds: 15/2 Sky Bet.

Millwall v Aldershot The Shots are on a tremendous run at the moment in League Two, and have hardly conceded any goals recently (four wins on the spin without reply), which may well stand them in good stead in this tie. Yes Millwall have been strong at home recently, but Aldershot should take a large following on the short trip to South London. Odds: 13/2 Boyle Sports.

Scunthorpe v Alferton It seems hard to imagine anyone having a Big Day Out in Scunthorpe but Alferton will be doing precisely that this weekend. Scunny had been doing well in League One, but have lost their last two games. In contrast Alferton have won nearly every game recently in the Blue Square North, and therefore could cause a possible upset - and bring a smile to the face of many a Mariner. Almost two years to the day Scunny lost at home to League Two basement side Wrexham in the FA Cup, a result which Beat the Bookies successfully forecast when the Iron were in a similar position in League One. Odds: 17/2 Sky Bet.

Bournemouth v Blyth Spartans Blyth have a similar task to their fellow Blue Square North side Alferton, and a great FA Cup tradition to go along with it. The Cherries have dipped in form recently and could well be knocked out by the Tyneside minnows. Odds: 13/2 Sky Bet.

This season we will be trying out three different betting strategies:

• Fixed Odds - as per last year
• Spread Betting on the Mini Performance Index with IG Index (25 points for a win, 10 for a draw, 10 for a goal)
• The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy).
