Squad Numbers Announced

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/07/2009

GRIMSBY have revealed the provisional squad numbers for next season, from which one can speculate on Mike Newell's plans for a first choice team and formation.

The squad is as follows:

1 - Nick Colgan
2 - Robbie Stockdale
3 - Joe Widdowson
4 - Ryan Bennett
5 - Matt Heywood
6 - Peter Sweeney
7 - Adrian Forbes
8 - Nathan Jarman
9 - Adam Proudlock
10 - Barry Conlon
11 - Danny Boshell
12 - Jamie Clarke
13 - Nick Hegarty
14 - Peter Bore
15 - Matthew Bird
16 - Paul Linwood
17 - Grant Normington
18 -
19 - Michael Leary
20 -
21 -
22 -
23 -
24 -
25 - Rob Atkinson
26 - Jean Louis Akpa Akpro

It's probably safe to say that Matt Heywood won't start based upon last season's showing, and that he has retained last season's squad number. However, could Mike Newell be thinking along these lines with a 4-3-3 formation?

Colgan; Stockdale, Bennett, Atkinson, Widdowson; Sweeney, Leary, Boshell; Conlon, Jarman, Proudlock

Grim Rob Says: Regardless of what Mike Newell's plans are it is a pleasant change to have the principle squad assembled before the start of pre-season. In recent years we seem to have been waiting for new signings right up to and sometimes several weeks after the start of the season proper.
