Beat the Bookies: Week 3

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/08/2009

ANOTHER successful weekend for Beat the Bookies saw both our Fixed Odds tips win, ensuring a healthly profit for the season so far. A small loss on the spread betting market was the weekend's only blip.

Bury v Grimsby. Grimsby have had a poor start to the season, but they have had a difficult set of fixtures and showed some improvement against Rotherham. Bury are obviously going to be favourites but they have lost both their home games so far without scoring a goal. Town have a good record at Gigg Lane and at 9/2 are well worth considering for an upset, either on the fixed odds or by buying on the Mini Performance Index. Selection: Grimsby

Notts County v Dagenham. Both clubs have had great starts to the season, and Daggers have won every game. It is unbelievable that a team who have scored 10 goals in their last two games can be as long as 5/1 (Betfred) to win this game. It would be madness not to put a few quid on Dagenham in this game, and Notts County showed they were beatable in midweek. Selection: Dagenham

Morecambe v Macclesfield. Morecambe have got off to a poor start to the season, just picking up a point so far. Macclesfield haven't done much better but they look they pick of the two sides on the showings so far. Morecambe have leaked goals in many of their games to date. Once again the price for an away win of 3/1 looks very generous.Selection: Macclesfield

It's pointless looking beyond these three fixture really.

This season we will again be trying out three different betting strategies:

  • Fixed Odds
  • Spread Betting on the Mini Performance Index with IG Index (25 points for a win, 10 for a draw, 10 for a goal)
  • The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy). The Monkey lost every bet last year.

Recommended Fixed Odds Bets

  • 1. Grimsby to beat Bury. . (9/2, Bet365)
  • 2. Dagenham to beat Notts County . (5/1, Betfred)

Recommended Spread Bet

  • Sell Morecambe mini-performance (28 at extrabet.com)

The Monkey's Bet

  • Grimsby to win 3-1, 50/1 Bet365
