Kempson Close to Comeback

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/07/2011

DEFENDER Darran Kempson is likely to play some part in the remainder of the pre-season after hearing the prognosis from the specialist the 26-year-old has been seeing about his foot injury. Kempson broke his third metatarsal back in April, and has been receiving treatment on it ever since.

Paul Hurst told the Grimsby Telegraph "It is more positive than we initially thought and we would like him to get a few friendlies under his belt before the start of the season."

Kempson is likely to start running again shortly, but it will be too early for him to feature in Saturday's friendly at Barnsley.

In their previous pre-season game Grimsby overcame NPL Division One South outfit Sheffield FC by a 2-0 scoreline, with Pearson and Eagle scoring the goals either side of the break. The Mariners could have gone on to score a lot more but for the form of the opposition 'keeper.
