Connell Will Be Replaced

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/07/2011

ALL the money received from Swindon for striker Alan Connell will go back in the playing budget Town chairman John Fenty told the fans' forum last night. However with the club losing almost a million pounds in the last year, the "six figure" sum would in reality not have paid Grimsby's debts for long.

With Swindon spreading payments over three years Town at least have a little extra income for the next few seasons, one of which they will hopefully manage to climb back into the Football League and closer to being in the black.

The club are looking for one more player, unsurprisingly a replacement for the just departed Connell, but no announcement is expected imminently with Scott/Hurst preferring to take their time on acquiring a replacement.

In other news from the forum, Town could have to pay Boston over £40K if they lose the court case which is due to take place in September. The Pilgrims are seeking compensation for the less of their managerial duo to Blundell, despite the pair only having a few weeks left on their contracts.

Town's next pre-season friendly is at Sheffield FC on Wednesday. The Mariners lost their first friendly match against Rotherham at Blundell Park on Saturday with Duffy getting Grimsby's consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat.
