Gateshead v Grimsby Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 28/08/2011

TOWN have more defensive problems for the trip to Gateshead on Monday. With regular back four players Garner and Silk already ruled out, Town have more worries at the back after left back Lee Ridley limped off with a suspected hamstring injury on Saturday.

Young Charlie I'Anson who came on as a sub on Saturday may have to deputise in a makeshift back four against high-flying Gateshead, who have been the surprise package of the season in the BSP so far.

The Gateshead game may be the last for Town midfielder Tyrone Thompson as Grimsby cannot afford another squad member on a full time basis. Thompson was signed on a non-contract basis to fill in while Anthony Church was injured. Ironically he is one of just three players to have scored a goal and the first Town scorer of the season.

Gateshead also have injury worries of their own with six goal top scorer Jon Shaw limping off midway through Saturday's 2-1 win at Barrow, after scoring the two goals which netted the Tyneside club another three points.

Former Mariners midfielder Mickey Cummins will have a point to prove in the centre of the park. Cummins was told he was not wanted at Blundell Park in the summer, only to find himself playing for a smaller club near the summit of the table with his old club Grimsby near the foot of it.

With none of the big clubs in the North East playing on Saturday Gateshead expect to get a bigger than average crowd.
