Grimsby v Darlington Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/12/2011

GRIMSBY have a break from the serious business of League and FA Cup for the TA Trophy game with Darlington at Blundell Park on Saturday. It is the second of four consecutive games at home, and Town will be keen to avoid a draw requiring a replay in a competition which can cause havoc with the fixture list.

The managers are promising to put a full strength team out, but Serge Makofo and Jamie Green are still both injured, while Michael Coulson and Criag Disley picked up knocks in the midweek draw with Mansfield and may be rested. All four loan players are eligible to play in the competition so are very likely to feature,

Bogey side Darlo, the current holders of the FA Trophy, have not lost at Blundell Park since the 1980s. Grimsby last beat Darlington at Blundell Park in 1987, and have lost 7 and drawn 2 of the 9 fixtures since in Cleethorpes. The Quakers, who have had serious financial problems again this season, have about five players out with injuries. But they have already won once at Blundell Park this season and will be confident on securing another victory at a place many of their supporters will never have seen their team lost at.
