First Three Players Leave

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/04/2012

MICHAEL Coulson, Scott Garner and Rob Duffy have all left Grimsby Town with immediate effect. Coulson had been offered a contract on reduced terms by Town but turned it down. The other two players were both told they were no longer part of the managers' plans.

Coulson was Grimsby's last link with the side that was relegated from League Two in 2010 and the only member of the squad still on Football League wages as he signed a three year deal with Town when Grimsby were still in the Football League.

Garner and Duffy, like Coulson, were not signed by the current managers, who are clearly attempting to mould a team predominantly made up of players they choose rather than those who were already on the books when they joined the club in March 2011.

Of the trio, Coulson was by far the most successful player, going on to represent England C, and being a regular starter in the first team in all of his three seasons at Blundell Park. He's probably good enough to play in the Football League, and therefore could not be facing Town next season.

Duffy and Garner were mainly used as squad players by the managers, but have both made important contributions to some of the games they have been involved in.

The Fishy thanks all three players for their contribution and wishes them the best of luck in the future - except when they play Town!
