Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Duo Depart

CHARLIE I'Anson has become the latest player to leave the club after rejecting a deal at Blundell Park. The 18-year-old, described as a "good one" was snubbed by the young centre back, who has prompted him to be given a free transfer.

I'Anson was the second defender to leave Blundell Park. Right back Gary Silk was not given a new contract offer, so is now a free agent. In total 8 players have now left the club, and more could possibly follow as not everyone remained has signed a new contract.

That means that a few new players will doubtless be arriving to replace those who have left, but the scale of the changes this summer is probably below that of recent seasons when virtually the whole team has tended to be replaced. Grimsby have been poor starters in most of the recent campaigns, a fact which has probably not been helped by the swapping and changing. Continuity has always been associated with the more successful Mariners' sides in the past, and that is a formula the club are trying to aspire to again with the spine of the team remaining the same for next season.

As for I'Anson, if he does not want to play for the club, then he's better out than in.
