Beat the Bookies: Week 17

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/11/2012

JUST one winner last week, and the odds were not enough to cover the rest of the losing bets. The less said about the two FA Trophy bets last week the better - we tipped Woking to lose and they beat Farnborough 7-0! The other one wasn't much better.

The FA Cup is a long odds punters paradise. Every round there are upsets at huge odds, it's just backing the right one, but if you do you are laughing! League leaders Grimsby (how nice it is to type that!) head to Ebbsfleet as favourites to win, On paper you'd expect Town to triumph but the recent FA Trophy performances and the fact that Grimsby had to play on Wednesday before a long trip to Kent mean we'd be reluctant to tip the Mariners at the odds on offer as there's probably better value around.

Premier League

  • West Ham v Chelsea - home win (4.3. Marathon). Chelsea are in poor form, the disillusionment amongst the supporters seems to be almost universal, and West Ham, never an easy ground to play at, are doing rather well.

  • Liverpool v Southampton - away win (9.0. Totesport). Liverpool, like Chelsea are sliding down the league. Southampton look like they are starting to come to terms with the Premier League, and could be good for at least a point and who knows all three,

    Championship

  • Leicester v Derby - away win (5.91, Pinnacle). Both teams are going well at the moment, but looking at the recent form there doesn't seem to be much to separate the sides. It is surprising therefore to see such a long price for the away win.

    FA Cup

  • Oldham v Doncaster - away win (5.5, Sporting Bet). Donny are on fire at the moment, and have won the last four games. They beat Oldham in the league at Boundary Park last week.
  • Crawley v Chelmsford - away win (8.5, Betway). Crawley are on a really bad run at the moment, and Chelmsford are doing really well in the Conference South and are top of the form table.
