The Fall From Plaice - Part 5

By: Gainsbro Mariner
Date: 09/01/2013 (Last updated: 20/01/2013)

ADAM Buckley will not come as a shock to be in this list? Was he even a professional footballer? Unfortunately some of our hard earned cash did go through the club coffers and would of eventually ended up in Adam Buckley's wage packet. The son of the messiah, but arguably one of the worst players to have played for Grimsby Town ever!

Granted, Mr Buckley junior could cross the ball and was handy from set pieces but he couldn't run, pass, tackle and rarely offered anything to any match he played in. Can anyone remember the collective groan around Blundell Park when he was named on the bench every week?...not to mention the louder whine when his dad would bring him on with 25 minutes left? Well surprisingly when Daddy was sacked and became Lincoln manager, Adam who for a year under Lennie Lawrence had struggled to make the reserve team bench eventually followed him to Sincil Bank.

His Lincoln career ended in controversy as he admitted stealing possessions from his team mates. With Buckley senior now departed, and jobless the inevitable slide down the football pyramid began. Over the next few seasons he appeared for Brigg Town, Harrowby United, Stamford, Bourne Town and Spalding United. In 2007 he earned himself a trial for Boston United following their relegation from the Football League....obviously he wasn't to get in and he returned to Spalding before moves to Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Sleaford Town. By 2009 he had moved back to Railway and back to Sleaford. He then joined lowly amateurs Nettleham before moving back to...yep you guessed it Lincoln Moorlands Railway. In the summer of 2012 he joined newly promoted Lincolnshire League side Gainsborough Town but yep again..yet again moved back to Lincoln Moorlands Railway in October 2012. No surprise here, no fall from plaice..just the way it should of always been.
