Beat the Bookies: Week 30

TWO wins out of five last week brought another healthy profit, now over £600 for the season. Pick of the bunch was AFC Wimbledon's win at Dagenham to lift them away from the foot of the table.

Town play Macclesfield in this week's televised Conference game. Town are favourites to win, something they have only managed 5 times this season so far (Wrexham by contrast have won 10 away games, even Macclesfield have won six). Neither team loses often (the blip of Macclesfield's blip at home to Gateshead last week aside), the draw looks the best bet at around 3.4.

Premier League

  • Swansea v Newcastle - away win (3.88, 5 Dimes). Swansea impressed in last weekend's cup final but you have to take into account the standard of the opposition. Their league form of late has been average. Newcastle strengthened the team during the transfer window and their results have turned around dramatically in the last few weeks.

    Championship

  • Blackpool v Bristol City - away win (5.75, Marathon). Bristol City have been a club transformed since Sean O'Driscoll took over. They've won all their recent home games, it's been the away form that has been trickier to turn around. But then the last three always have been at Cardiff, Palace and Blackburn and Blackpool are not in the same league. They look like they're destined for mid-table mediocrity and their form has not been anything special of late.

  • Brighton v Huddersfield - away win (6.0, Marathon). Huddersfield have been fighting for their lives at the bottom of the division and had a good win at Burnley in midweek. The recent form doesn't show a great deal of difference between the two sides, so the away win looks the best value.

    League One

  • Doncaster v Hartlepool - away win (5.00, William Hill). A few weeks ago Hartlepool would be 10-1 plus to win at the league leaders. However their recent form makes them still good value at 4/1. Don't even look at the league table for this game, look straight at the form table. Pools have 14 points from 6 games, Doncaster have six.

    League Two

  • Cheltenham v AFC Wimbledon - away win (5.0, Sky Bet). Wimbledon has a good win at Daggers last week and this week head to Cheltenham. Town have won just one in six games, while the Dons showed last week that they can pull a rabbit out of the fire and get all three points away from home. Cheltenham have recently drawn at home with Bristol Rovers and Aldershot so obviously struggle to beat the bottom sides on their own ground

    Blue Square Premier League

  • Gateshead v Braintree Town - Away Win (3.4, 888 Sport). Gateshead have been terrible for weeks when they have managed to play. Last week's result at Macclesfield was a massive exception when they won 4-0. Was this a freak result, or the beginning of a purple patch? Either way Braintree are doing much better than Gateshead of late. Note that this game isn't really a home game for Gateshead either as it's played at Hartlepool. The crowd will struggle to make three figures, it will be more like a reserve game.
