Town Crushed at Home

Date: 01/09/2013 (Last updated: 03/09/2013)

GRIMSBY were comprehensively outplayed by Nuneaton on Saturday afternoon at Blundell Park. Trailing by 2 goals by the away side, the Mariners gave themselves a mountain to climb when full back Aswad Thomas was sent off.

Substitute Andy Cook gave the home crowd hope with a late goal, but the Mariners could not summon a second despite a late rally.

The controversial 4-3-3 system (if that's what it is) is causing many fans to question the wisdom of the switch to a new formation over the summer.

Fishy poster Carrot Top observed: "The formation is totally wrong, everybody knows that except these two. Chopping and changing every game cost us last season and they quite clearly haven't learn from it. We need a change from these two as we are going backwards. One up front at home is a joke. I've said it before that this is not 433 they are playing. If we are going to go 433 then at least put the personnel in to be able to play it."

Despite, being above Luton, Kidderminster and Wrexham, and only four points from the summit, Town's start from the season is far from ideal given the generally low standard of the opposition they have played. The Mariners' next challenge will be their first against top class opposition, when they travel to Luton for Saturday's televised game.
