Ravens Force Replay

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/12/2013

GRIMSBY drew 1-1 at Coalville on Saturday to give themselves an unneeded and unwanted replay on Tuesday night at Blundell Park that has forced the cancellation of the league game with Welling that evening.

The Mariners took the lead in the game at the start of the second half through a Rodman blast into the top corner, but as the game progressed the home side came increasingly into it, and Grimsby found themselves in the dangerous position of trying to defend a 1-0 lead. The home pressure finally told when the hosts beat the offside trap and Hempenstall equalised with 10 minutes to go.

Last year Town needed a replay against Buxton in their first round tie with Buxton, but eventually reached Wembley in the tournament. So Grimsby have two cup games at Blundell Park next week - the replay with Coalville on Tuesday and the big game with Northampton in the FA Cup on Saturday. Tickets for the FA Trophy replay on Tuesday are just £10.

Town: McKeown, Bignot, Doig, MacDonald, Hatton, Rodman, Thanoj, Southwell, McLaughlin, Cook, Neilson
Subs: Colbeck, Hannah, Walker, Winfarrah

  • Striker Liam Hearn looks like he will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury. Hearn missed almost all of last season with after undergoing achilles surgery. Hearn is out of contract in the summer.
