Town Beat Rams

GRIMSBY continued their impressive pre-season form with a win over Championship side Derby County at Blundell Park. The Mariners followed their 4-0 win over Cleethorpes Town with a 2-1 victory over a strong-looking Rams line-up.

Town took the lead with a well-worked first goal. Disley picked out the run of Amond who made no mistake to score his third goal in a Grimsby shirt.

Craig Clay added a second a few minutes later when Jon-Paul Pittman picked out his run into the box and his deflected shot found the bottom corner of the net. Town had a good chance to make it three when Mackreth gave Pittman little chance with a poor pull back.

Derby completely replaced the who side in the second half and they pulled a goal back from a Johnny Russell free-kick. The Rams pressed for an equaliser in the latter stages of the game but Town's defence held firm.

The Mariners next pre-season game as away at North Ferriby United on Tuesday night (19:30).
