Boys Beat Barrow

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 11/11/2015

GRIMSBY returned to the top five thanks to an impresive display at windy Barrow. The Mariners came from behind to record a 3-1 win thanks to goals from Amond (2) and Gowling. The home side had taken a firt half lead thanks to a Otis Khan goal direct from a corner.

Msrshall started the game up front alongside Amond with new signing Alex Jones on the bench. Captain Craig Disley returned in midfield alngisde namesake Craig Clay.

Amond soon put the Mariners level thanks to a suplime finish from the Irishman. The Town striker clipped the ball past his market with his right foot and blasted the ball into the net with his left. Gowling then put Town in front in the second half in a passage of play following a corner which Barrow failed to clear. The ball was played back into the box by Disley and Gowling headed it in.

Both sides had chances to score the crucial fourth goal but it was the Mariners who gave themselves some breathing space thanks to a second strike by Padraig Amond. Amond's low shot should have been saved by the 'keeper who got a hand to the ball but couldn't prevent it going into the net.

The win lifts the Mariners back into the promotion places and two points closer to Forest Green who could only draw with Welling.
