Town See Off Cards

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/02/2016

GRIMSBY returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win over Woking last night in a dress rehearsal for Saturday's FA Trophy Quarter-Final. The result cements Town in third place, and the Mariners look very likely to end the season in a top five slot.

Paul Hurst reacted to the 4-2 defeat at Halifax by dropping four players. Toto Nsiala, Gregor Robertson, Ryan Jennings and Omar Bogle all started on the bench and it paid immediate dividends as Town were in front after just four minutes when Jon-Paul Pittman fired in after Arnold's cross was played across goal by Amond.

Giuseppe Sole equalised with a header from a free kick to pull a goal back for the Cards but within three minutes Grimsby were in front again thanks to goal machine Padraig Amond heading in Horwood's cross. The Irishman added Town's third and his second just before half-time.

There were no goals in the second half but it was the home side who looked the more threatening.
