Town Fail to Beat Guiseley

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/03/2016

GRIMSBY rescued a point after twice falling behind in the rearranged game at Guiseley. Two superb headers by Craig Disley and Padraig Amond saw Town return with a draw, but they had the chances and possession to win the game, especially in the first half.

After just six minutes James McKeown failed to clear a cross from a corner and Atkinson bundled the ball home in the ensuring melee. The lead lasted just over 10 minutes when Town scored a deserved equaliser when Disley powered a header into the net from Jennings's cross.

The pattern of the first half was repeated in the second when the home side took an early lead against the run of play. McKeown once again McKeown parried a shot and a Guiseley player was first to react when Boshell put Guiseley in front. Town equalise quickly, with different personnel leading to a similar goal, this time Horwood crossing on to the head of Amond.

Bogle came on for the last 20 minutes but Town were unable to get the winner their play deserved. Town lost ground on the top two but at least keep their points total ticking along, and are on target to finish third.
