Town Lose First Leg

GRIMSBY have their work cut out to remain in the play-off race after losing a close-fought match at Blundell Park 1-0. The only goal of the game was a second half penalty which Josh Gowling conceded and Iron captain Kenny Davis made no mistake from the spot.
In the first half Grimsby had most of the possession but were limited to a few half chances. Following Braintree's goal Town seemed to run out of ideas, and the introduction of East and Hoban made very little difference.
The Mariners have failed to score against Braintree three times this season, and the part-time side have the best defensive record in the league, so Paul Hurst's men will have to raise their game to stand a chance of going to Wembley.
