Grimsby v Accrington Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/12/2016

MARCUS Bignot has had over a week to weigh up his options after the defeat by Doncaster. Town have had a run of games against sides near the top of the division and now face Accrington a side below them in the table in a game Grimsby are favourites to win.

Omar Bogle was a surprise absentee at Doncaster but is expected to return to the side after recovering from his thigh injury. Dominic Vose, Ben Davies and Sean McAllister are all available again to the Town boss who now has almost a full squad to pick from. Winger Rhys Browne is the only possible absentee after he was granted compassionate leave, but he's not been a regular starter anyway.

Accrington are expected to be unchanged but defender Janoi Donacien has returned to training following surgery and goalkeeper Aaron Chapman (back) is also available.

Grimsby have only picked up 5 points from the last 6 games but Accrington have fared far worse with just a single point during their last half a dozen matches. Their only recent wins have been in the FA Cup and they now find themselves third bottom of League Two and one of the favourites for the dreaded drop into the abyss of non-league.

With Town currently equidistant between the promotion and relegation places, this game has a huge psychological element as it will point the direction in which the team will play out the remainder of the season.
