Trialist Dembele in Talks

By: Luke Pawley
Date: 11/05/2017

GRIMSBY Town are in talks with the representative of twenty-year-old winger Siriki Dembele over a potential deal.

The Scottish winger featured for The Mariners as the famous "Trialist A" in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Barnsley towards the end of April.

Dembele is the older brother of Celtic's thirteen-year-old prospect Karamoko, who has featured for his club's under-20 side while also representing England and Scotland at international level.

Siriki, meanwhile, currently plays for the Nike Academy, a global initiative with links to many professional clubs. Some of their past graduates include senior Ghana internationals David Accam and Majeed Waris, as well as Celtic and Australia midfielder Tom Rogic.

Dembele was one of twelve winners of the global Nike Most Wanted 2016 competition, earning himself a prestigious place at the Nike Academy. In August 2016, he went on trial at Barnsley - where Town assistant manager Paul Wilkinson was then the Tykes' under-23s coach. Earlier this year, the pacey winger had a short trial period with Tranmere Rovers before accepting Town's invitation for a trial.

It is understood that there are several clubs looking to sign Dembele, meaning that Russell Slade will have to convince Dembele, and his agent Alex McDonald, to strike a deal with The Mariners.

Slade has previously told local media that he is looking to add quick wide midfielders to his squad, an even higher priority now that loanee Dominic Vose has returned to Scunthorpe.
