Slade Sacked: Thank God

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 11/02/2018

RUSSELL Slade has finally been sacked following a disastrous run of 12 games without a win. The Town boss had received two votes of confidence by the board during the run, but the directors have finally been forced to act by Grimsby's rapid sinking down the table towards the relegation battle.

Slade won just 11 of his 43 games in charge, a win ratio of just 25%, probably the worst in Grimsby's entire history.

The club have issued as statement saying: "Despite speculation to the contrary, Russell was on a six month rolling contract, allowing the club the flexibility to make this decision."

Assistant manager Paul Wilkinson has been placed in temporary charge. He is at least familiar with the players, although whether he can get more from them than his predecessor remains to be seen.

Grim Rob Says: Slade's sacking has been inevitable for weeks. He has been completely out of his depth all the time he has been in charge. His signings have been terrible, his use of the loan market awful, his tactics dated, and his results abysmal. For an experienced manager, he has been categorically found out to be completely clueless, and I sincerely hope that he never works in the professional game again. I cannot thank him for his time in charge, because he was a terrible appointment, and a total failure. Good riddance.
