The Wait Goes On

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/02/2018

GRIMSBY are not about to appoint a new manager, despite media and social media speculation that a new boss is imminent. The board have issued a statement denying that anyone has been offered the job.

Phil Brown and John Askey have both been strongly linked with the job, however, neither is about to be named.

Paul Wilkinson will continue to run the club in the meantime, despite the poor performance at Cambridge.

The statement reads: "Following speculation to the contrary, Grimsby Town Football Club can confirm that there is no imminent announcement scheduled for the appointment of a new First Team Manager.

"While we will not be drawn into a running commentary on individual applicants and the selection process, we can confirm that no candidate has formally been offered the position at this time. The Club continues to work diligently through a shortlist of applications with interviews continuing throughout this week."

Grim Rob Says: The club are right to take their time as it's critical they get it right. We no longer have the buffer of good players with the promotion team gone and the best players from the first year in the Football League mainly departed. The new manager has the biggest rebuilding job since Town entered non-league in 2006-2007. If the right person is not available now, and interim could always be appointed for the remainder of the season.
