THE Grimsby Telegraph has named Tom Shutes as the man behind a rumoured takeover at Blundell Park. The London-based businessman, who has family links to the area. He has already been involved with the Greater Grimsby Town Deal which is regenerating areas of the town.

His main area of business is property development, but he has involvement in other areas too and also takes an interest in the charity sector.

The club has been up for sale for some time, although how much serious interest there has been, if any, has never been clear. Discussions are ongoing at the club are remaining tight-lipped although no denial has been issued of what the Telegraph printed. The paper claims the takeover is to be completed in time for the new season to start.

What role John Fenty would have at the club remains to be seen. Fenty is currently the major shareholder and largely is responsible for overseeing the club, although he relinquished the chairman role some years ago.
