Shutes Exits the Stage

TOM Shutes has withdrawn at the eleventh hour from the consortium who were about to buy John Fenty's share of the club. Shutes stating that for "personal reasons", he was stepping away from the deal.

This despite the fact that all the financial and legal hoops had been negotiated and the only thing left to do was ratify the sale. Londoner Shutes has also deleted his Twitter account and effectively taken himself out of the public eye to the extent that he was ever in it in the first place.

The other members of the consortium, Jason Stockwood and Andrew Petit, hope to resurrect the deal, but it will mean renegotiating with Mr Fenty.

When the deal was thrashed out around Christmas Grimsby were threatened by relegation, whereas now it looks imminent short of a miraculous climax to the season.

Town have a tough trip to Salford tomorrow, who have not lost a home game all season. The Mariners need to win, which will be a tall task, although they will take stock that Town have not lost for six games.
