The Big Mac Debate

David Peasgood this weekend finds Bert and Fred have just read the telegraph news about Big Mac arriving in Town. Hear their views and YOU decide in our latest 'fishy' poll.

Fred and Bert

Big Mac In Town!!

BERT:
I can't believe it, Big Mac back in town!

FRED:
Well just hang on a minute. He isn't coming back to coach.

BERT:
Oh I know that. It's just good PR for the club though. The association with his name will give us more chance of signing players. It sells the club and makes us look like we're going places.

FRED:
I agree with all that side of it, but what about the stuff that's upset Alan Buckley. He sees the title of football director as something over his head and as interference.

BERT:
I can see AB's point. Maybe he had the title football director in the back of his own mind for when he retired, but Huxford has made it perfectly clear that Lawrie Mac won't have anything to do with AB's side of things.

FRED:
I'm not so sure. Lets be realistic. Suppose AB wants to buy someone, so Huxford asks Lawrie what he thinks. Lawrie's opinion is "He's a bad buy" and I'll bet AB loses out. If we are selling it'll be Lawrie not AB who is suggesting what price and clauses to add on. Again AB's nose out of joint.

BERT:
That's not so bad. Frankly I'd rather someone else handled transfers and contracts than AB anyway. It isn't his strong point with his dislike of Bosmans and agents.

FRED:
Yes but the crunch will be when we next have a bad run of 5 or 6 defeats. Someone is bound to ask "where are we going wrong Lawrie?" and then you'll find you are one step away from AB asking "just who is in charge of the football at this club?"

BERT:
As ever you put up a good case Fred, but I think AB has had too much say for too long under a previous weak chairman and board. Now the new lads are showing who's boss and if Buckley doesn't like it then tough. I think Lawrie Mac is good for Grimsby Town FC.

FRED:
Yeah but you're old like me, and half them lot out there never heard of him anyway. You ask and you'll see. He must be costing money too, so is he worth it?

Now for the vote...
