Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Each week we interview the long-suffering partner of a keen Town fan. Watching and reading about football can consume a lot of time, which can be a frequent bone of contention between partners when one partner is a keen fan and the other is not. This week's Cod Widow is Chez Osborne.

Fishy:
Do you support Town yourself, perhaps another club, or do you have no interest in football?

Chez:
I do have a interest in football and yes I do support Town. But I don't live for it like some people I could mention.

Fishy:
Has your partner ever taken you to a game, when, and what do you think of it?

Chez:
My first game was away to west ham in the cup,we drew 1-1 and it was brill. That was the second time we went to that game, the first time we went, we went on the Friday night stayed in a hotel and was outside Upton Park at 9-00am only to be told there was a pitch inspection. Needless to say,it was called off.Nick was well pissed off,we had to go shopping in London instead and took in a show in the afternoon.

Fishy:
How big a part do GTFC play in Nick's life?

Chez:
You decide. He went to Sheff Wed in the cup on his daughter's birthday, (Town lost 7-1) and left me with loads of kids for her party. Everywhere we go he insists on wearing his Town shirt, his favourite colours are black and white. I could go on forever but I won't.

Fishy:
Would you rank Nick's interest in the Mariners as obsessive, fanatical, healthy, moderate, or occasional?

Chez:
Fanatically obsessive I suppose.

Fishy:
How often a week do you think Nick thinks of something related to the Mariners?

Chez:
Twenty three hours and fifty nine minutes, the other one he shares with me and our 2 girls.

Fishy:
Who has the deciding vote when there's a football match on TV that clashes with something you want to watch?

Chez:
I do. But I usually let him watch football.

Fishy:
What do you do when a Town game is taking place?

Chez:
Suffer. He is ignorant, he only thinks of the game and I have to ferry him about, like to the Rutland. I even have to pick him up if he's off to work after.

Fishy:
How often does Nick wear a Town shirt in a typical week?

Chez:
2 or 3 times a week, but every match as well.

Fishy:
Does Nick read the newspaper from the front or the back?

Chez:
Back to front then front to back then back to front again. It really annoys me.

Fishy:
Is it just Grimsby Town, or does Nick have other sporting teams or individuals they are passionate about?

Chez:
Town,England and we are both thinking of Richard Gere when we make Love.

Fishy:
Do you have any other questions?

Chez:
I do have one for the other Cod Widows. When he(Nick) is in the chat room,we are not allowed to walk talk or breathe anywhere near the PC or Radio. Is this the same in your house? If so, what's the cure. Because it annoys the hell out of us.

Fishy:
If anyone wants to answer Chez's question you can do so at the Pontoonites Message Board.
