Evers Returns Home

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/09/2000

Reading midfielder Sean Evers has returned to his club without playing a game for the Mariners. The deal agreed between Town and the Royals was that Evers would be given a one game trial, the game in question being yesterday's reserve fixture against Scunthorpe which was rained off.

The news doesn't rule out any future interest by the Mariners in 23-year-old Evers, who played for Lawrence during his spell as manager at Luton, it is just the agreement that the two clubs reached prior to Evers arrival at Blundell Park. Since he became Grimsby manager, Lawrence has without exception used a "try then buy" policy with potential signings. With little money at his disposal, the Mariners boss knows he can't afford to make mistakes. Lawrence's moves indicate that he is trying to ensure that when he does offer players contracts, he does so in the knowledge that they are suitable for the club based on first hand knowledge, not past performances or second hand reports. We will be first to let you know of any more news of a renewed interest in Evers by Grimsby Town.
