St Blundell Parish Newsletter: Village Hall News

By: Mr L Lawrence
Date: 28/07/2001

Hello and welcome to the village hall news! Hope the weather has been alright over here! Me and the rest of the village hall members have been in Scandanavia to see ABBA Live! Quite a show it was too!

Unfortunately our new member Mr Ellison and Mr Livingstone went home ill, but hopefully will be OK for our August trip to Cleethorpes.

Since I last wrote, there have been many people renewing and canceling their membership. Mr Handyside decided that St Stoke's village hall had a much better programme of events, which Mr Cockerill informed me included Dominoes and Beetle Drive! Suit yourself Peter!

I am glad to say that we have a brand new member in Phillip Jevons who is from Scouseland. Phillip will add to the ever growing list of members, which prompts me to inform you that we desperately need to offload some members who are not pulling their weight with fundraising activities.

This month I told young Adam Buckley to shift it, which was quite hard for him to take, so he immediately went running to his Daddy about the whole thing! As I have said before, our members are not here just to have fun and go on trips, but to put something back into the community.

This leads me to an exciting new venture dreamt up by yours truly! In December this year we hope to put on a show entitled 'A Mixture of Pantomimes', with a bit of every pantomime all in one show, to show to the villagers. Already auditions are underway and I can confirm the following parts:-

  • Goldilocks Wayne Burnett
  • Drunken Sailor Anthony Gallimore
  • Hobble Along Jim Richard Smith
  • Captain Hook Paul Groves
  • Ugly Sisters Stacy Coldicott & Paul Raven

There are still lots of parts available, so do not hesitate to ring me on 785643.

Right now we are preparing for a trip to Cleethorpes in August. Once again Mr Allen hopes to win the sandcastle competition, but I have my doubts! I do remember Mr McDermott making a very good sandcastle last year, so watch out Brad! We also remind Mr Campbell to make the cheese sandwiches, while Mr Gallimore volunteered to bring the drinks (and I'm not talking about orange juice!). The bus leaves at 1.30pm prompt on August 11th, bring an anorak just in case!

Since the recent success of the village halls Bingo Evening we now have enough funds to book the following trips in advance.

  • Sat August 18th West Bromwich Butterfly Park
  • Sat August 25th Preston Pebble Museum
  • Sat August 27th Portsmouth Pier

Each trip costs just £5. No injured or ill people will be taken because quite frankly, we don't want your germs (that included in growing toenails). Until next time, goodbye

    Lennie
