Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Stacy Raring to Go

GRIMSBY TOWN midfielder Stacy Coldicott is nearing a comeback for the Mariners after completing 45 minutes of reserve team football last Wednesday against Lincoln City. The former Baggie was thrilled to get back into action and could now be in contention for a starting place at Liverpool.

Speaking to the Grimsby Evening Telegraph on the reserve game: "It was fantastic. I've never looked forward to a reserve game more in my life. It's been very difficult and even now there's an urge to come back a little too early. I'm nearly there and I feel like I'm making some real progress."

With Menno Willems ruled out of the Cup game with a hamstring injury and Butterfield playing at right back through McDermott's absence, Stace could well be in contention for a recall to the starting line-up at Anfield. Lennie Lawrence's main worry would be the fitness of the tigerish midfielder.

"My last competitive game was West Brom last season and it feels like a long time. I could have done with another reserve game and then maybe get in the squad. As regards off the pitch I'm as fit as I've been in my career. I've been swimming, rowing, biking and it's just the running that I haven't done.

"Having not done it for so long it takes a while to get back. It's not just the running. It's sprinting and checking but I feel I'm making really good progress."

Now the squad has been struck down by injuries, Coldicott now feels more urgency to get back into action and help his team mates back into good form: "Before, the lads were doing really well and I didn't feel as much pressure. I thought that I could take my time and make sure I was right. But on the back of the last five results it's been there. I'm not saying we haven't deserved more but the results are what you are judged on and there have been other injuries as well."

"The main thing was to get through and not have a reaction. I felt like I was moving fairly freely and the biggest thing was to get my fitness back in the games." It looks increasingly likely that the midfield terrier will be used in some part on Tuesday night, but whether it be on the bench or in the starting eleven remains to be seen.
