Date: 16/12/2001

FRED and Bert have just heard the news that Marlon Broomes is not signing for Town as they have no money, but is joining Wednesday instead.

FRED:
Oh dear Bert

BERT:
Not good news is it?

FRED:
Certainly not. What are we to do from here? Do we stick with Groves and Raven at the back? Put in that Simon Ford? Try and sign someone? Or shall we just pack it in altogether?

BERT:
One thing is for sure, we need some answers. Whether people think the board are un-ambitious or think that Broomes was just asking for too much is irrelevant. What is important is what we are going to do about it, and at the moment, no one seems to know. I mean, is Raven here or not?

FRED:
Nobody knows.

BERT:
Typical! Well, he would be handy. There's no-one else left! Lennie needs to get his skates on or we're doomed, and so is his job!

FRED:
That's a bit harsh Bert, Lennie hasn't done badly, he's just had a few unlucky injuries.

BERT:
Errr. Fiddle - de - di! Don't give me that. He wasted £13,000 a week last season on a defender we didn't need. He spent another £170,000 on Willems, plus his wage packet, when he's done nothing. He signed Campbell, who this season has done poorly, sold Handyside, bought Jevons instead of a big chap, and to top it all off has signed NOBODY to play with Groves at the back!!!

Fred and Bert

FRED:
So, what are you saying? He can't exactly do a lot, he's got no money, and just a squad full of injured players.

BERT:
The only reason he's got no money to spend is because he spent the lot of it!

FRED:
So you're saying sack Lennie?

BERT:
Yeah.

FRED:
You got it all wrong there mate, it's the board that need sacking. Where is their ambition? Do they not realise that if they don't dig deep for the manager to spend money on players we are going to be in worse financial straits next year when we're in the second division? What have we got to loose?

BERT:
Well, it's all a bit of a mess really isn't it? I can't be bothered much longer Fred, just where is this club going?

FRED:
That's what needs answering, because at the moment everyone seems to be acting like a chicken with their head cut off, jumping on the bandwagon, giving their two pennies worth about what's happening a BP.

BERT:
Anyway, we shouldn't be to disheartened, after all, it is Christmas soon.

FRED:
That's true. And, you never know Bert, Town might have a centre half by then. But there again, I don't know.

BERT:
See after Christmas Fred, have a good one!

Now for the vote...

Who do you blame for the failure of signing Broomes?

Lennie Lawrence
Broomes' greediness
Peter Furneaux & board
Generally accept that town will loose out to bigger clubs

Town now have a crisis at the back, what do you think LL should do?

Play Raven
Push Galli in the centre
Put Willems at the back
Give Simon Ford a chance

Do you have confidence that Lennie Lawrence will keep us up?

Yes - 100%
Probably
Undecided
Don't think so
Not at all
