Danny Coyne Virtually nothing to do all game thanks to a solid display by the back 5 who protected him so well, however his kicking was very poor to say the least and was a real disappointment.
Grade: C-
Simon Ford The ex-Charlton youngster had another solid game at the back but was prone to concentration lapses. Overall performed well and made several good interceptions in the air to thwart the threat of Dyer.
Grade: C
Paul Groves The player-manager led by example and was the main nemesis of the Tykes attacks. Several fantastic last ditch tackles and organised his defence brilliantly.
Grade: B-
Tony Gallimore Playing as the left sided of the 3 centre backs seems to suit ‘Gally’ to a tee. He looks comfortable their and his performance at Oakwell echoed this thought. Whilst dealing with Sheron and Dyer he also helped out on the right when Donovan cut inside.
Grade: B-
Danny Butterfield Didn’t do a lot wrong and to criticise would be slightly unfair, ah well, lost possession a few times in dangerous areas but to his credit he fought to regain it. Looks much better wide than in the middle but still not a patch on Macca.
Grade: C
Ben Chapman At this rate Ben is going to walk away at the player of the year awards with his hands full. Another strong performance down the left, not the most adventurous of wing-backs but I'd rather he stayed back than flew forward on every occasion. Made several interceptions from cross-field balls to set Town on rare attacks.
Grade: B-
Stacy Coldicott Very busy game for Stace and at times was playing almost as a defender, made some good tackles and got stuck in when the game was going stale. Had a few chances to shoot at goal but instead passed.
Grade: C+
Wayne Burnett Wayne seems a different player since Groves took over, back is the free roaming Wayne who is not afraid to try the little shimmy or nutmeg opponents. Played very attacking at times but got back into the midfield to help out when required.
Grade: C+
Menno Willems Oh god where do I start? Took him 80 minutes to get into the game, which is probably down to the fact that he never warms up before a game. Was often out of position and his passing was woeful. When he did get into the game he played well but still didn't redeem himself, very lucky not to have been substituted.
Grade: D-
Phil Jevons Another who seems a different player under Groves, so much better with the ball at his feet. Made a few Lester-esque runs with the ball but was starved of real service all game.
Grade: C
Chris Thompson The spell of 4 games in a short spell told on Thompson as he looked very tired before his substitution. Like Jevons starved of service and made a few nice runs/touches. Had a good chance early on but delayed over it.
Grade: C-
Grade Guide
A* | This is almost impossible to achieve as I will refuse to give anyone this grade - unless they score six goals and get opposing players sent off. |
A | This is more possible to achieve, although the player must have had a brilliant game i.e. he can't have put a foot wrong all match. |
A- | The player must have performed superbly, setting up goals, scoring goals, making match-winning tackles etc. |
B+ | The player played to a very high standard indeed having been influential throughout the 90 minutes. |
B | This can be achieved if the player had a very good game overall but could be forgiven for making one or two minor mistakes. |
B- | The player put in a performance worthy of special mention for his efforts on the pitch or otherwise having a good game. |
C+ | A mark for players who have had an average game but at the same time played well in patches and may have had an impact on the final score. |
C | An average performance but not worthy of being dropped for the next game - a competent performance. |
C- | Start thinking about the player's attitude and commitment on the pitch. Showed little effort and was probably invisible for most of the match. |
D+ | Poor game and realistically shouldn't feature in the next game. |
D | This player shouldn't be playing in the near future. |
D- | The player deserves to be fined for his abysmal performance |
E | The player should be sacked |
F | And then shot |
