Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Back To The Drawing Board For Town!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/01/2002

WITH the next game not until next Saturday, manager Paul Groves is looking forward to getting the squad back on the training ground to sort out a few problems the main one being the inability to score goals.

He is also expected this week to take a close look at the player pool and determine what changes need to be made. The fact is that changes will be made with players being released or placed on the transfer list. Chairman Peter Furneaux has given due warning of this with his statement regarding the number of players on the long-term injury list and the cost to the club.

No announcement has yet been made as to which players will face the axe but in the meantime Groves has more pressing needs in getting the team back into the winning mode.

"We've not had the chance to get on the training ground at all. The games have come thick and fast and the bad weather means we've not been able to train on the grass at all since I took over."

But with better weather forecast Groves said "I am looking forward to getting a clear week on the training ground and getting some quality work."

With West Brom our next opponents, Town will have to improve their performance if they are to get any points. Playing as they did against York will prove costly against WBA. However Groves puts the blame on lack of preparation as the team had 3 games close together with the weather preventing any real training.
