Gillingham Are Worried About Us says Butterfield!

MICHAEL BOULDING scorer of a brilliant goal against Crystal Palace on Saturday is hoping that it is only the beginning and he can open up the floodgates and is looking to get more.

The Grimsby Telegraph quoted assistant manager Graham Rodger who said the goal was as good as John Barnes' famous strike against Brazil in the early 1980s.

High praise indeed and Boulding responded saying "I've had a lot of chances in every game but I couldn't put the ball in the net. It doesn't normally take me that long and hopefully this will open the floodgates in the games to come."

"In the last five or six games we've been looking a lot better and we are starting to score goals and create chances. It could have seven or eight goals in this game if we had been more clinical. We look in good shape and we have given ourselves a great chance of staying in this division."

Bradley Allen "I think we can all say it's been a roller-coaster season. I'm sure there's some hardened supporters who have seen some poor performances in recent weeks, but I'm sure they'll have got a lift from that game."

"The key now, as difficult as it may seem, will be to keep our feet on the ground. We've said all along that 50 points will see us safe and we are still a long way from that."

"We have to try and forget this game and prepare ourselves for the match against Gillingham correctly and professionally. If we're going to stay up we have to reproduce that sort of performance on four or five more occasions."

Allen said the pre-match pep talk by Paul Groves on Martin Pringle's injury had inspired the Mariners.

"The performance was for the players and for the fans, but it was for Martin Pringle as well. That poor bloke was stuck in a hospital in Stoke and might be struggling to play again. Grovesy got us together before the game and he hammered that home. He told us that we're all fortunate to still be able to go out there and play football and pull on that jersey."

"Fingers crossed he will, but Martin might never have that opportunity again. That stirred us up a bit. I always said that if I got my chance I would give it my best shot. Now I want to try and produce some consistency."

Danny Butterfield said the opposition will be looking very hard at Grimsby. "They will all be looking over their shoulders now thinking 'what's going on at Grimsby?' A lot of them had certainly written us off and we think we can turn it around." He said

"Gillingham is another big game and we go there with a lot of confidence. That's 10 points out of 12 now and they won't be looking forward to playing us. We're in a bit of form now and they'll be worried. We're just keeping our heads down trying to get to that 50-point mark."

"Everyone played really well, including the subs that came on, and we all got stuck in and played well for each other. Grovesy mentioned the game at their place before the game and that was the main motivator. Knowing that they beat us 5-0 at their place, we wanted to pay that back."

"We did by getting three points, and scoring five was a nice little bonus! It was great to keep the run going. We've been struggling to score this season and now we've proved we're capable of scoring."
