Boulding And Ford Offered New Contracts

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 26/04/2002

PAUL Groves has announced that the club have made offers to Michael Boulding and Simon Ford. He will want to keep these two players and it seems only fitting that he should make them his highest priority which seems to be the case.

The club statement released on Mariners Net said: Both players have had outstanding seasons and the Town boss will be more than keen to keep hold of them as he prepares for the new campaign with the Mariners' First Division status guaranteed.

Groves told Mariners Net "I have spoken to both Michael and Simon, and have put offers of a new contract to both of them. They have both gone away to consider the club's offer and I expect to hear back from them in due course."

"Simon's agent has said he will be back in touch regarding this initial offer early next week, and possibly there will then be further discussions. However, with Michael, it may be up to three weeks before he comes back to me as he will require a few days to think over the offer, and he is then away on holiday for a fortnight."

Speculation is mounting that Boulding may have other options to consider and it is highly likely that Town have a fight on their hands to keep him but Groves has done a brilliant job with him and he said recently that he was keen to continue working with him.

Grovesie commented on that saying: "Michael is within his rights to consider other options, and we will have to wait and see. Fans can be sure though that I will be doing everything I can to keep him at Blundell Park."
