"Restructuring - Not Cutting" Says Furneaux

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/06/2002

REPORTS today say that Grimsby Town chairman Peter Furneaux described the sacking of eight coaches from the Youth Programme as a "restructuring" not a part of the cost cuttings the club are currently undertaking.

The whole Junior and Youth team set up at Blundell Park is being reviewed and Director of Youth, Ian Knight, has not had his contract renewed and he has now left the club.

Mr Furneaux said the review and restructuring is being carried out because of the failure to produce first-team players from the current set up.

"This was never intended to be a cost cutting exercise - it has been a restructuring and I can assure all of the youngsters they need not worry about their future. Money has never been a factor."
