Fractured Skull Say Doctors!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 19/08/2002

STEVE Livingstone has sustained a fracture to the base of his skull, and he remains in hospital. The injury occurred as Livvo went for a high ball with Higginbotham and a clash of heads resulted during Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Derby.

There are mixed opinions as to the Higginbotham challenge with some claiming it was irresponsible and others who say it was accidental. Nonetheless, Livvo is more seriously injured than first thought. The game was held up for fourteen minutes as he received treatment and was later taken by ambulance to hospital after being unconscious for around 8 minutes.

It seems the CAT scan revealed the damage, which was thought initially to be minimal, but later confirmed as a fractured skull.

Livingstone is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks, meaning Paul Groves has lost a key player again for a big chunk of the season, and Town's tiny squad will be stretched once more.
