Groves Shuffles Squad!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 04/10/2002

TERRY Cooke has been given a chance to show his worth tomorrow in the game against Reading. Manager Paul Groves has put him in the squad and has told him to turn on the style he is capable of.

Groves will miss out through injury but the good news is that Steve Kabba, Stacy Coldicott and Shaun Allaway are expected to be available after their injuries. Darren Barnard will drop into defence, with Cooke filling the empty slot in midfield.

Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph: "If Darren comes out of midfield then that vacates a position and Cookey comes into the reckoning. People have kept him out of the team with their form and now he has an opportunity. He has to take it and grab it with both hands. It's down to him to him to produce the type of football we know he's capable of playing."

"Because of the size of our squad people will get their chance to stake a claim. Whether that's because of injury or suspension, it's going to happen all season."

George Santos is also looking to make his debut for Town and Mansaram also staking his claim.

"We're going to have to reshuffle however we look at it. We simply don't have the resources to go one-for-one. I'm very doubtful and, short of a miracle, I won't be playing."

"It's important that we make this a difficult place to come. We have to build on that result from last week. With the number of home games coming up we have to take three points from this first one. We need to put a little run together if we're going to haul ourselves out of trouble."

Grimsby Town: Coyne, McDermott, Barnard, Ford, Santos, Cooke, Coldicott, Pouton, Campbell, Kabba, Mansaram, Allaway, Robinson, Rowan, Ward, Raven. Referee: Howard Webb (South Yorkshire).
