Macca: Play Like That Again And We're Down!

By: Richard Lord
Date: 14/04/2003

GRIMSBY captain John McDermott has issued a warning to the rest of his team-mates saying: "If we play like that against any of the other teams we are down," following the 4-1 defeat to Crystal Palace, reports the Grimsby Telegraph.

The 34-year old continued: "We can not beat teams on that performance. We have got to realise we are in a relegation battle. We have got to look at where we want to play and what division it is in, and have a bit of pride, roll our sleeves up and have a go.

"All the teams think they can get out of it, and to be honest we are no different. We have all got to play each other and if we are going to get out of it we have got to win our games.

"Whoever will get out of it will be a team that goes on a run and takes nine points, and I think that is what will happen."

"We had to win it. It was a massive game for us and it has all gone wrong for us.

"It doesn't look very promising for us at the moment. The first half performance was definitely not acceptable, and I am disappointed and frustrated as well."

Town now face a stern test this weekend when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday, who climbed off the bottom of the table with an impressive victory at table-toppers Portsmouth.
