Jevons Set to Return

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/04/2003

FORMER Everton striker Phil Jevons is to return to Blundell Park at the end of the season, after his loan spell at neighbours Hull City ends in May. The 23-year-old Liverpudlian, who is still under contract with the Mariners, has been on loan at the KC Stadium since September.

Jevons who, along with Town 'keeper Danny Coyne, was placed on the transfer list last summer in a failed attempt by the Blundell Park board to cut costs by off-loading their top wage earners, has had a stop-start career since departing Goodison Park, from where Grimsby signed him under Lennie Lawrence in the summer of 2001. After a handful of appearances for Grimsby at the start of the season, he joined City on loan, but has only scored 3 times in 15 starts for the East Yorkshire outfit.

Town boss Paul Groves explained "Jevvo will stay with Hull until the end of the season and then he will come back. He's a Grimsby Town player and that is what will happen unless the board say different."

If Jevons were to make any more appearances for Grimsby, the Mariners would have top pay the Goodison Park club a further £100,000 as part of the deal that was arranged when he was signed from Everton.
