Dutch Striker on Trial!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/07/2003

FORMER Sheffield United striker Laurens Ten Heuvel has arrived at Blundell Park for a week's trial and will go straight into the starting line-up with Boston for Saturday's friendly at York Street. The 6'2" Dutch striker started his career in Holland before joining Barnsley.

After two years with the Tykes, Ten Heuvel joined the Blades in July 2002, making nine substitute appearances before going on loan to Bradford last season, where he played in five games for the Bantams. 27-year-old Ten Heuvel has never scored a goal in first team football during his time in England.

"We'll have a look at him and see how he fares," Town boss Paul Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph. "He's big but he's not a target man. But he will hold the ball up and he's different to what we've got. He hasn't played a great deal of football but he's big and has played in the First Division.

Should Paul Groves not like the look of Laurens Ten Heuvel, another prospective forward is arriving at Blundell Park on Monday for a trial.
