Is football a business or a sport?

Groves in a Nutshell

By: BobbyMooreNo6

PAUL Groves does have some merits as a manager: he has a good eye for a player (even though most of his targets won't come) - for example Kabba, Oster, Cas, Anderson and a dogged determination to get Boulding back.

His players respect him, plus he is the most committed and professional guy we've ever had at the club.

But where he has spectacularly failed in the last year or so is that he has blind spots regarding certain players. For instance Simon Ford has gone backwards since the middle of last season, the lad should have been rested long ago. His first priority should be the formation of a rock solid central defence (e.g. Lever/Handyside or Groves/Todd). Crane looks a good prospect for someone who has only just turned 21 but he needs an experienced partner to bring him on.

Then there's the Terry Cooke fiasco. Everyone could see he was a decent, creative player except Grovesie who treat him shodilly. Sheff Wed are now reaping the rewards.

Other favourites of his who are clearly not good enough spring to mind: Mansaram, Barnard (at left back..?!), Coldicott; and previous employees Livvo and Gallimore.
