Young's Press Release

YOUNG'S has agreed to become the major sponsor for Grimsby Town, in a deal which puts the fish company's famous logo on the Mariners' shirts for the next two years.
Famed for nearly 200 years for seafood, Young's is Grimsby's biggest employer and sees the sponsorship of Grimsby Town as a natural tie-up. Commercial Director, Jim Cane, says, "When it became clear that the Mariners were looking for a new sponsor, we were only too happy to open discussions. We employ over 2000 people on the south bank of the Humber, many of whom are avid supporters of the team, so it made good sense to everyone here that we should also lend corporate support to the club."
Young's has ten factories in total, and with turnover of £400M is the UK's biggest seafood supplier. The Young's brand celebrates its 200th Anniversary in 2005, as is particularly well-known for its prawns, scampi and fish pies - including one best-seller called Mariner's Pie, made with every northerner's favourite fish (haddock!).
Jim Cane says, "Young's is going great guns at the moment, sales of fish are rocketing and we've just announced investment of £15M in the Humber region with the prospects of many new jobs. We hope that some of our success will rub off on the Mariners and spur them to improved performance - perhaps regular doses of our delicious Mariner's Pie will do the trick!"
Grimsby Town is delighted with the deal. Mariners' chairman Peter Furneaux added, "This new sponsorship is a fantastic partnership for both companies and also for Grimsby itself. We are delighted that a national company as prestigious as Young's is willing to support Grimsby Town in this way. Since Young's is one of the biggest employers in the Grimsby area, this deal will add to the strong relationship that the football club already has with the local community."
The Young's logo will start to appear from the end of this season on the new kit. This year, all shirts supplied to the club will be manufactured by Nike for the first time, in another important deal for the club.
